My DIY headboard

Today I went over to my parents' house to paint my headboard with my mom.  This isn't fashion related, just thought I'd tell you about my life.  It's really not very interesting haha.  I've literally been meaning to paint my headboard for almost 4 months now.  Every time I plan on doing it, it rains or I have to work or something.  But, my mom and I, finally got it finished today.  I bought two doors and painted them teal.  I've set them behind my bed to make a headboard.  Now all I have to do is nail the door knobs on (they aren't regular door knobs).  I love it- the only thing I wanted to do differently is paint the lines white, but we just aren't talented enough painters lol.  I wanted to pay someone to do it for me!!

I have no idea why that picture wants to be small.  But those are my doors!  :)  I'm excited to finally have a headboard.  I was worried I was never going to get it painted!

Last day of September

It's the last day of September, but the weather isn't cooling off much.  It's no longer so hot that the outdoors are intolerable, but it's still getting up in the mid 70s and lower 80s.  The weather is still calling for shorts and tank tops, until the sun goes down at least!

May the good 'ole days R.I.P

When I was younger I used to watch Boy Meets World and Saved by the Bell.   Well, I recently realized that you can watch every episode of Boy Meets World on YouTube.  So I've had myself a little marathon, which I literally just finished the last episode about an hour ago.

When they say goodbye to Mr. Feeny- oh, I cried!

But anyway, I was comparing the fashion in these two shows.  I think it's interesting how Boy Meets World's wardrobe is so much more conservative of the two.  Topanga's wardrobe (who is the main female in Boy Meets World, in case you slept through the 90's) mostly consists of cute, but conservative outfits.  I think the one here is adorable.  I love myself a cute jean vest!  The 90's are making a come back, I could definitely wear something similar to this today.  With the right shoes, it's almost got a hipster-vibe.

Saved by the Bell, on the other hand had a bit more sex appeal in their wardrobe.  Nothing sleazy, but Kelly Kapowski definitely got some attention.  Here's the picture that so many people pay to have printed on a t-shirt (you can order it from Urban Outfitters for $24).  Kelly's sex appeal is much more obvious than Topanga's.  Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just an observation on my part.  I actually really like this outfit (not that I have the body for it!), but it's super cute!  I'm in love with suspenders.  I don't have any... must get some soon!

I personally respect Boy Meets World for keeping the audience captivated, even without being sleazy (again- not calling Saved by the Bell sleazy-- it's one of my favorites!).  I understand that the show was aired in the 90's, but I rewatched the entire series in the past two weeks... I'm 23 and never once did I think, "man, I wish someone would shed some clothes."  So I guess it's sad to me that shows today think they can't just be.  They think they have to cuss, and be sleazy and have sex.  I'm disappointed in our society.  It's gone so far downhill and it worries me for where it's going to be in five years, ten?

I don't mean to sound like I'm being holier than thou, or that I'm on some high horse-- because I'm really not.  Trust me, I'm not.  I mean I'm just as guilty as anyone else, probably worse so because most people hate Jersey Shore and I can't turn it off.  I just hate that it's not just a couple shows... it's pretty much every one.  Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, Grey's Anatomy, even shows on ABC Family like Pretty Little Liars and The Secret Life (again- GUILTY!  I watch every one!  Except The Secret Life- no thanks).  I guess these are just some thoughts that I didn't even realize I was going to express.  Sorry if I came off as snobby!

Glee Fashion: Rachel & Kurt

It's Thursday, which means most of my favorite shows come on tonight.  In fact, so many of my shows come on tonight, and at the same time, that I can't record and watch them all!  It's a very sad story, I know.

Well one of my shows that I absolutely can not miss is Glee (duh).  Rachel and Kurt are my all-time favorite fashion icons on that show.  Everything they wear is to die for.  Here's a few of their outfits from this season that I loved :)

I am a huge fan of the fishtail braid, so I love Rachel's hair here.  And I love her yellow beret beanie!  Her outfit looks very Fall.  The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of with this outfit was her shoes which you can't even see.  The rest of it, I love!

Anything Kurt wears, I adore.  He can literally pull of anything.  I love how his look has become more and more sophisticated.  And I love that he has gotten an internship at Vogue (so perfect!).  I keep trying to decide if Sarah Jessica Parker is going to end up stealing his ideas, or actually be a true friend to him.  I can't decide!  I hope she doesn't stab him in the back!

OBSESSED with both of their outfits here.  They are both so chic.  Loving their newfound New York fashion sense.  Not that they didn't have good fashion sense before, it was just more high school.  They actually look more mature now.

Excuse me while I gleek out!

Never too old for Converse

I love dressing up.  Spending hours pulling clothes out of the closet and standing in front of the mirror, for that perfect look.  Putting on a fancy dress and high heels just makes you feel pretty, you know?  Well, don't get me wrong, I love having a chance to dress up, but there's something about pulling on something comfortable that can make you feel pretty too.  Maybe it's the fact that you're in your own comfort zone.  I think that's what it is for me.

I've had my black Chuck Taylor Converse sneakers since I was thirteen years old.  I remember the day I got them- I was so excited.  Because all of the older kids that I knew had them and I wanted to be cool like them.  Well, I used to go to youth group at church every Wednesday night with a huge group of kids and I was so proud when I showed up in my brand new Chucks.

I got there, and this group of older boys (in their Chucks) came up to me and told me I had cool shoes.  Then one of them told me they looked too clean, and that I needed to get them a little dirty.  I was thinking "ha, um NO.  These are my BRAND. NEW. CHUCKS."  But before I could even speak he took his own dirty Chuck and rubbed the bottom of it all over the perfectly white tip of my brand new one.  I tried not to look devastated.

This is a picture of me, ten years later (wow, I'm old!) sitting in my comfort zone, wearing my Chucks.  They still fit me perfectly.  I don't think a person can ever be too old for Converse.

Oh darlin' don't you ever grow up

I have two jobs, both working with children.  It's funny how often I see something a kid is wearing and wish I could get it in my size.  At the school that I work at, where the kids are somewhat close to my size, I've actually asked them where they've bought certain outfits!  I'm a dork, I know.  I just miss being a kid sometimes (more like always).  Not that adults don't have cute things to wear, but kids can wear things that adults can't get away with.

Today, at one of my jobs, a little girl came in with the cutest outfit on.  She's one of the kids that always comes in wearing something adorable.  Whenever I see a kid all dressed up, it makes me want to have a kid just so i can buy them stylish little kid clothes!  :P

I didn't ask her mom where she got all her clothes, so I'm sorry if you wanted to know.  I do know that her shoes are TOMS and they cost $36 on toms.com.  I didn't realize her shoes were TOMS when I first saw them.  When I saw the label I was surprised.  I've never seen that type of TOMS before.  They're super cute! (I want them in my size!)  I've never seen leopard print TOMS or TOMS that are booties.  And the pink soles are a great touch.  It ties in well with her shirt.

I love her socks too.  I used to wear socks just like that when I was a little girl.  Every single pair I owned were the kind that you pulled half way up your shin and then you folded back over, with cute little lace around the edges.  I like the way the lace lays over the tops of her shoes- I think it looks really trendy haha.  Her socks could possibly be my favorite part of her whole outfit.

I'm also in love with her leggings.  I seriously want them!  If only I wasn't 23, and I was still 8 years old.  And then there's her loose flowery top, with turquoise flowers on it that match the polka dots on her leggings.  I think this outfit is awesome.  It's got animal print, polka dots, and bright colors.

 What else is there?

A casual look for day & night

This is what I wore to work today :)  I'm in love with my jean jacket.  I got it from Forever 21 for less than $25, and the white, sleeveless button-down from Old Navy for less than $20.

I love this dress, it's a great length.  It's not too revealing, and makes me feel pretty :)   It's really great by itself, but for work I like to wear it and then add a sweater or cute t-shirt over it!
The dress I got at Target last year, I can't remember the price of it, but I doubt I paid more than $30!  The necklace I stole from my older sister in high school! (;

Pushing the season

Saturday was the official first day of Fall, so everyone is trying to get as much use out of their Summer wear as they can before it's time for sweatshirts and scarves.  Except me!
Personally, my favorite season is Fall.  It's not too hot or too cold- it's perfect!  I'm a major season pusher.  In the middle of the summer I wore my Christmas shirt that says, "You've gotta believe to receive!"  Well today I went to work wearing skinny jeans and my GreenBay Packers hoodie (it's game day!) and I was perfectly content.  I wasn't hot or cold or anything, I was fine.  When one of my coworkers showed up, she was wearing shorts and a t-shirt.  She laughed at me!  I told her she must have forgotten it's no longer Summer.  She just shook her head.

Another simple way I push the season is by adding a scarf to my summery outfit.  Here, I just added a cute infinity scarf over my white tank top.  I'm usually cold (always) so I don't get hot with a scarf or jean jacket on.  But those are always cute things that you can add to your outfit and are removable if you get too hot!

Wearing boots with dresses is also a cute way to push the season.  I wear cowboy boots mostly- never UGG type boots in the middle of the Summer.  I would only wear those when the weather requires them.  But cowboy boots with a sun dress is adorable! :)

Stripes & Polka Dots

I got the under shirt, which is a plain white button-up collared shirt, at Target for less than $20
The polka dotted sweater I got at Old Navy last year.  I can't tell you the price of it for sure.  I feel sure I didn't pay more than $25 though!
The striped skirt I got at Old Navy for less than $20

The Fashion of Doctor Who

Doctor Who is one of my favorite shows- if you haven't seen it, then shame on you!  Although, it's on BBCA and not everyone gets that channel so you may have an excuse.  The most recent doctor (Matt Smith) has excellent style. He has made bow ties cool and tweed suits fashionable.

Other than wearing bow ties on a daily basis, the current doctor also wears suspenders, button-up shirts, and on occasion even a fez or a stetson.

Being a Doctor Who fan, I've noticed that the three main characters on the show (as of now), Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, and Arthur Darvill all have very interesting fashion sense in their daily lives.  All three are definitely hipsters.  I really enjoy that style of fashion.  I've tried to pull it off before, but I just don't think I'm cool enough!

Back when David Tennant was The Doctor, he also had a unique fashion sense.  He always wore the same suit and tie, which he looked so good in.  But what made his outfit great was that he stuck with his Chuck Taylor Converse sneakers even though he was wearing a nice suit.  I think it showed that even though he was over 900 years old, there was still a bit of a child in him.

adorable & affordable :)

I got this striped dress in Forever 21 for under $25 and this hot pink blazer in Charlotte Rousse for under $20.  Definitely one of my favorite outfits!

Shopping is an addiction

Hi, I'm Hallie and I'm a shopaholic.
No really.  I have a problem.  I can't go in Target, or Old Navy, or Forever 21 without getting twitchy.  Once I went into Old Navy for a single pair of khaki pants- I came out hours later, having spent WAY too much and with no khaki pants!  Shopping is an addiction.
Last weekend I went to a football game and long story short- I thought I lost my Visa and had to order a new one.  Well, it's 7 days later and my new card still hasn't come.  I took out (what should have been) plenty of cash at the bank, but I've pretty much spent it all.  My mom and I went shopping today (including Target!) and I nearly cried trying not to shop.  Shopping is an addiction.
